What level of education is required to be a dentist?
You may have heard that becoming a dentist requires years and years of schooling, but what steps do they actually have to take? Well, they first need to earn their bachelor’s degree. Then, they must be accepted to one of only 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. Over the next three years, they need to complete rigorous in-classroom and hands-on training to earn their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS). Of course, even then their training is far from over because they need to complete continuing education hours each year to maintain their license.
