Why Did You Decide to
Become a Dentist?
Dr. Coughlin’s mother currently works as a hospice nurse, but in the past, she assisted an oral surgeon. She had Dr. Coughlin shadow many dentists, which opened up her eyes to the precision and technical work they were capable of. At the time, Dr. Coughlin was taking pottery and ceramics classes, and she recognized that many of the dental tools were very similar to the ones used in sculpture and carving. This artistic side to dentistry was extremely compelling to her. One of her favorite procedures to watch was the repair of chipped front teeth – and today, it remains her top treatment to perform!
But as she shadowed the dentists, she saw just how many people were struggling with serious, painful problems on a regular basis, as well as how rewarding it was to be responsible for finally alleviating someone’s discomfort after sleepless nights. Many years later, she still feels confident that this is the perfect career for her strengths and passions.

What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Coughlin’s parents and their support are huge parts of her life, and she also has an older brother with four beautiful children. She definitely loves being an aunt! One of her biggest passions outside of dental work is cooking, especially Italian food, pizzas, and desserts. She often gets in trouble with our team for bringing in too many baked goods. Other favorite hobbies include running, playing sports like soccer and disc golf, doing pottery and ceramics, and reading fantasy novels.
